Mulberries

This fruit is new to me. Locally grown by Animal Farm, which I've mentioned in previous posts.

Here are some facts about mulberries:
  • There are other varieties, like white and black mulberries
  • Generally free of pests and diseases
  • Contains resveratrol, a powerful blood flow increasing antioxidant
  • Good source for potassium, manganese, and magnesium
  • Excellent source for Vitamin C
  • Excellent source for Iron (not common among berries)
  • Some traces of vitamins A and E
  • Very high in anthocyanins, which help to fight against cancer as well as reduce aging and neurological diseases, inflammation, diabetes, and bacterial infection. Also, it's the pigments that give berries its rich coloring.
  • Contains Zeaxanthin, an antioxidant that protects the eye by absorbing damaging blue light and reducing glare
  • They won't last more than a couple of days in the refrigerator. They will ferment or get moldy.

If you cannot buy it fresh, there are dried mulberries available for purchase. Not certain of which brands are trustworthy.
